Developing an Acne Diet 101
Many people could benefit from an acne diet. After all, who has not heard the saying that chocolate gives you pimples? We almost all have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.
Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. Being based on your body’s responses to certain foods makes it very personal. There are rules to follow, but progress is usually by trial and error. Check your skin thoroughly every day. Write it all down. Taking pictures with your digital camera is a good way to keep a journal. So if and when your skin clears up, stay on the diet you were on at the time.
Here are a few instructions to help get you started on an acne diet:
* Take in a lot more protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is correlated with cleared skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin is very vulnerable to breakouts.
* Stay away from carbohydrates. - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. However, you do need to limit them to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because there are compounds in carbohydrates that can stimulate oil production. This is why so many people think that junk food causes acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.
* Green tea is a must - If you can, drink real green tea. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Androgen production will be limited when you drink green tea. Androgen is a hormone that will wreak havoc on your skin.
* Restrict your salt intake - Salt usually contains iodine. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.
While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. If you have acne you are probably already more aware than most people of the ingredients in your beauty products. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. These are least likely to cause a breakout. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. If you want to enhance your acne diet and reduce breakouts, you may want to try mineral makeup.
